More Ortho Evra® News
Ortho Evra® makers have new lawsuits filed against them by 3 Texas women diagnosed with severe blood clots and other life-threatening health problems.
The Ortho Evra® lawsuits filed in U.S. District Courts of Texas say the drug's maker, Johnson & Johnson, should be held responsible for manufacturing and selling a dangerous drug.
The Texas women, all in their 30's, required hospitalization as a result of their medical problems caused by Ortho Evra®, which include pulmonary embolism and blood clots.
Even though none of the women had a history of blood clots before taking Ortho Evra®, all three have been told that they must take blood thinning drugs to prevent future blood clots.
Ortho Evra® is an adhesive birth control patch that prevents pregnancy by delivering hormones through the skin. In September of this year, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved new label information for the Ortho Evra® patch after a study showed that women using Ortho Evra® were twice as likely to experience blood clots as those who used a typical birth control pill. The FDA has called for additional testing of the birth control patch.
