More Ortho Evra® News
Many women do get pregnant while using birth control such as the pill or Ortho Evra® birth control patch. Unplanned pregnancies occur in 53 percent of women who are using contraceptives.
Some women choose not to use a birth control method because they buy into myths about contraception.
One of the most popular forms of contraception for women is the birth control pill and Ortho Evra Patch®. The most common myth about the pill and Ortho Evra® patch is that it will make you gain weight.
Some women do seem to gain weight on the pill or Ortho Evra® but research has shown that it is not attributable to the use of the birth control. Women often begin taking Ortho Evra® or the pill during the time of life that typically coincides with weight changes, giving Ortho Evra® and the pill a reputation for causing weight gain.
Another misconception is that women should give their body a break from Ortho Evra® or the pill every few months or years. There is no medical reason to stop the birth control pill or Ortho Evra® patch as there is no known increase in risk to patients except unintended pregnancy.
Misconceptions about Ortho Evra® and the birth control pill come from many sources. There are positive and negative side effects of the pill and Ortho Evra®, but the majority of women do not experience any side effects.
As with any other form of medication, there can be serious risks for individuals with certain health problems. Anyone interested in using Ortho Evra® or the birth control pill should discuss it with their medical provider and understand all of the risks.
