A class action lawsuit over the popular Ortho Evra® birth control patch has been filed in Canada. Janssen-Ortho Inc., makers of Ortho Evra®, are facing a class-action lawsuit amid allegations that the company failed to properly warn people of all health risks.
The lawsuit claims that patients and doctors were not adequately warned that Ortho Evra® has been associated with dangerous side effect like blood clots, heart attacks, pulmonary embolism, strokes, and deep vein thrombosis.
Ortho Evra® was first approved for sale in Canada in 2002.
Health Canada is currently reviewing the results of two studies which looked at the risk of serious side effects when using the Ortho Evra® birth control patch.
