More Ortho Evra® News
Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, praised the approval of a new rule in Illinois requiring pharmacies to inform consumers of their legal right to birth control such as Ortho Evra® or the pill. Up until recently, pharmacies in Illinois could refuse to fill birth control prescriptions for any reason. Now Illinois pharmacies must fill a valid prescription for any type of birth control whether it's the pill, ring, or Ortho Evra® patch.
Governor Rod Blagojevich is leading the nation in protecting women's access to prescription contraceptives, such as the Ortho Evra® birth control patch, as anti-choice pharmacists in Illinois are refusing to fill legal birth control medications.
Keenan said Illinois residents should thank Gov. Blagojevich for standing up for women's rights by giving them timely access to birth control, including Ortho Evra®, which could prevent unintended pregnancies and reduce the need for abortion.
"The governor's latest proactive step to guarantee that pharmacies fill valid birth-control prescriptions makes Illinois a clear leader among the states", said Keenan. She believes that more states should follow Illinois, especially since 18 states considered measures this year that would allow pharmacies to refuse to fill prescriptions for birth control.
