More Ortho Evra® News
Ortho Evra® is once again in the spotlight with a class action and an individual lawsuit filed against Johnson & Johnson and McKisson Corporation.
One Ortho Evra® lawsuit was filed by the mother of a 24-year-old woman who died from a blood clot in her lung as a result of using the birth control patch. The other lawsuit was filed by 43 women who suffered severe side effects from the Ortho Evra® birth control patch. The class action suit states that the women experienced blood clots, heart attacks, strokes and deep vein thrombosis.
Ortho Evra® maker Johnson & Johnson, have 500 lawsuits filed against them for problems related to the use of Ortho Evra®, according to recent Securities and Exchange documents.
Ortho Evra® exposes women to 60 percent more estrogen than the birth control pill, thus potentially increasing risks of serious side effects.
According to recent court documents, the Food and Drug Administration has logged more than 9,100 complaints of adverse reactions to the Ortho Evra® patch in the past 17 months, as compared with 1,200 complaints for the Ortho birth control pill, over a period of six years.
Plaintiffs used Ortho Evra® over the pill for convenience as it is worn on the skin and only needs to be replaced once a week.
