Ortho Evra® - Heart Attack Risks

Back to Ortho Evra® Side Effects Main Page

Ortho Evra®, since 2002, has been used by almost 4 million women. Now there are reports that Ortho Evra® has caused fatal heart attacks, life-threatening blood clots, pulmonary embolisms, and other serious medical problems in Ortho Evra® birth control patch users.

More than 1 million Americans suffer heart attacks each year. A heart attack happens when the blood supply to part of the heart muscle is severely reduced or blocked. The reduction or obstruction occurs when one or more of the coronary arteries are blocked. Heart attacks are frequently caused by the buildup of plaque which at some point may burst, rip or come apart, creating a snag where a blood clot forms and blocks the artery.

Ortho Evra® patients that suffer from a heart attack and the blood supply is cut off for more than a few minutes, may suffer from permanent injury and die. Depending upon how much of the heart muscle is damaged, Ortho Evra® patch users could be disabled or killed.

Ortho Evra® user heart attack symptoms include, but are not limited to:

  • Discomfort radiating to the back, jaw, throat or arm
  • Indigestion or choking feeling
  • Excessive weakness
  • Sweating
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeats
  • Anxiety or shortness of breath
  • Pressure, heaviness, or pain in the chest or arm
